Cabin John Ice Rink offers group lessons for skaters age 3 and up, at every level of ability. Whether it’s your first time on the ice, or you’re a routine visitor to the rink there’s a skating course for you!
Our classes range from basic offerings, focusing on the foundation of progressive skills to variations of hockey and figure skating abilities. Learn how to skate in a fun, safe environment with professional skating coaches to help you achieve your ice skating goals. Tips for your first class
Wear one pair of thin socks.
Helmets and gloves are highly recommended.
Arrive at the rink 15 minutes early for your lesson, and 15-20 minutes early for subsequent classes so you have plenty of time to get skates and gear on before class starts.
Ask for skates that are size smaller than your shoe size.

Group Lesson Fees
30-minute group lessons start at $120 per series (six 30-minute lessons) 45-minute group lessons start at $180 per series (six 45-minute lessons) Lesson fee includes skate rental for each lesson and a practice card good for public skating sessions to practice. No transfers can be made after the second class has met.
Classes with less than 3 participants will either be refunded or combined with another class. $35 fee for all returned checks. Fees cannot be prorated. No make-ups or refunds for missed lessons.

Aspire Preschool
Preschool Aspire Registration
The Preschool Aspire program is for children who are between the ages of 4-6 who have currently passed the Preschool 4 level or have permission from the Cabin John Skating Director. The overall program is designed for young children who are accelerating rapidly through our standard Preschool Levels but are not old enough yet for our Youth Levels. Skaters in this program should have a strong interest in pursuing figure skating as a sport, as well as a desire to perform on the ice. After completing the Preschool Aspire program skaters will move into the standard Aspire Program. This class will meet for 20 minutes off ice in the dance studio from 2:30-2:50 pm and 30 minutes on ice from 3:00-3:30 pm on the studio rink.

Hockey Classes
These youth and adult leveled hockey classes teach skating skills for hockey, stickhandling, and prepare skaters for a team setting. Skaters should complete Youth Ice Skating 1 or Teen and Adult Ice Skating 1 before registering for a hockey class.
Hockey skaters are required to have the following equipment for class:
Hockey 1: Caged Hockey Helmet, **neck guard, Flat stick, Hockey Skates
Hockey 2: Caged hockey helmet, **neck guard , stick, hockey skates, Shin guards, hockey gloves, protective cup, mouth guard.
Hockey 3 & up: Caged hockey helmet, **neck guard , stick, hockey skates, Shoulder and Elbow pads, hockey pants, curved stick.
Spring Hockey Classes
Hockey 1 (Youth)-PICE0351
Hockey 1 Registration
Hockey 1: Prerequisite: Passed Youth Ice Skating 1 or Preschool Ice Skating 4. Skater will learn falling and getting up in hockey skates, proper stance, march forward across the ice, 8-10 steps, forward two-foot glide, dip, forward swizzles, T-push to a two-foot glide, front to back turns, and snowplow stop. Fee includes skate rental. Equipment required: Caged hockey helmet, **neck guard, flat stick cut to skater’s height, and hockey skates. Shin guards and hockey gloves are recommended (but not required). Fee is $120.
Hockey 1 and 2 skaters can attend a gear fitting and purchase session in the pro shop to receive a 15% discount on in stock equipment purchased (skates excluded) and a free stick cutting.

Hockey 2 Registration
Hockey 2: Prerequisite: Passed Hockey 1. Skaters will learn strides using 45-degree v push, forward one-foot push and glides, forward alternating C-cuts, backward hustles to glides on two feet, backward swizzles, backward alternating C-cuts, moving skateboard push, and moving snowplow stop. Fee includes skate rental, and a practice card good for admission to six public skate sessions to practice skills learned in class. Equipment required: Caged hockey helmet, **neck guard, shin guards, hockey gloves, flat stick cut to skater’s height, and hockey skates. $120.

Teen & Adult Hockey 1: Prerequisite: Passed Teen & Adult 1 in hockey skates. Learn the fundamentals of hockey skating including alternating forward and backward c-cuts, backward swizzles, one-foot snowplow stop, lateral crossover march, forward c-cuts on a circle, and turns from forward to backward. Skaters will also learn skating with a puck and beginning passing and stickhandling skills. Teen & Adult Hockey 2 Registration
Teen & Adult Hockey 2: Prerequisite: Passed Teen & Adult Hockey 1. This 45-minute class will focus on more advanced skating skills including backward crossovers, hockey stops, forward power hockey turns, fast stops & starts, backward V-stops, and forward to backward mohawk pivots. Skaters will also learn hockey techniques, rules, and game play including some scrimmage time. Fee includes skate rental, and a practice card good for admission to public skate sessions to practice skills learned in class. Equipment required: Caged hockey helmet, neck guard, shoulder and elbow pads, hockey pants, shin guards, hockey gloves, protective cup, stick cut to skater’s height, and hockey skates (rental hockey skates are available). Teen & Adult Hockey Power Skating Registration
Teen and Adult Hockey Power Skating: Improve your conditioning and skating skills. This 30-minute class will focus on stride length, take-offs and acceleration, agility skating, and edge work. Skaters must have passed Teen and Adult Hockey 1. Fee is $120.

Hockey Scrimmage: Prerequisite: Passed Hockey 2. This hands-on instructional class focuses on key elements of hockey. Skaters will learn rules of the game, enhance their skills, and practice through a series of scrimmages. Fee includes skate rental, and a practice card good for admission to public skate sessions to practice skills learned in class. Equipment required: Full gear, including **neck guard required.** Cabin John Ice Rink will require all hockey participants to wear neck protection. Neck guards can be purchased at both Cabin John Ice Rink and Wheaton Ice Arena. Fee: $120

Adult Edge Class
Join us for an adults only 30 minute edge class followed by 30 minutes of free skating time on the NHL rink. Class will focus on improving edges, turns, and power as well as fitness. Skaters should be comfortable with forward and backward stroking, basic turns, and crossovers. Each class is an individual registration giving you flexibility with your schedule.
Class meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 11:15 am-12:15 pm
