Underground Railroad Experience Trail and park grounds open year-round, 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset. Free of charge.
Restroom facilities are available April – November during museum hours or for groups with advance reservation. A portable restroom is available March 30 – November 30. *Restroom facilities are not available December – March.*

Guided Group Hike
Underground Railroad Experience Trail
Learn about the experience of 19th century freedom seekers and Montgomery County residents. Discover techniques used for navigation, eluding detection, and finding food/shelter. Hike is 2 miles roundtrip on a natural surface hiking trail. Visit to the Woodlawn Museum is included.
Estimated Time: 2 hours Group Rate $8 adults, $7 students.
Appropriate for: Ages 7 and up (fee charged for ages 6 and up)

Explore the history of the Federal-style historic Manor House, outbuildings and visit the Woodlawn Museum located in the historic stone barn.

Spend the day at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park! Visit the Woodlawn Museum in the historic stone barn and tour the Federal-style historic Manor House and outbuildings. Then learn about Montgomery County’s Freedom Seekers on a guided hike on the Underground Railroad Experience Trail.
Self-Guided- Group Hike Underground Railroad Experience Trail
Groups of 35 or less: NO reservation required.
Groups of 36 or More: 2-week advance reservation required.
Restrooms, Visitor Center and Museum are available during normal operating hours April – November or for groups with advance reservation.
*WMCP reserves the right to deny a self-guided group request based on scheduled tours/programs that may exceed the park’s capacity*
Planning Your Visit
Group Size/Payment
Group Size: Minimum 15 paid admissions the day of your tour. Maximum 100 people.
Groups of 40 or more subdivided at the Park’s discretion. Groups exceeding the maximum must be scheduled on separate days.
Payment: Due in one lump sum the day of your tour. Credit cards accepted (Visa, MC, Discover, American Express). Checks accepted for exact amount due payable to ActiveMontgomery. Upon request, invoicing available for schools and businesses.
Comp Admissions: Group leader and bus driver admitted free. Educational field trips- 1 adult teacher/chaperone admitted free per 15 paid student admissions, bus drivers are admitted free.
AMENITIES
Free parking: 50+ spaces available for cars and buses. Parking may be limited on weekends in the spring and fall.
Picnic tables available on a first come, first serve basis. No food service is available. Area restaurant and boxed lunch options are available upon request.
Manor House available to rent for indoor dining space for groups up to 50 people. Fee: $65 per hour. Minimum 1 hour required. Contact our office for more information and availability.
Gift shop offers a selection of light packaged snacks, souvenirs and books. Be sure to allow extra time for shopping.
Preparing for Your Trail Hike:
- Hike is approximately 2 miles on natural surface trail through woods and fields. Trail is not ADA accessible or stroller friendly.
- Wear comfortable shoes for hiking and weather appropriate clothing.
- There are no restrooms, amenities or seating along the trail.
- Pets are not allowed on guided hikes/tours or in the Woodlawn Museum except for certified service animals.
- WMCP may cancel a guided hike/tour for forecasted severe weather or poor trail conditions.
Accessibility
The Underground Railroad Experience Trail is not ADA accessible. The Woodlawn Museum is ADA accessible. Montgomery Parks encourages and supports the participation of individuals with disabilities.
