Group Guided Hikes Minimum 2 weeks advance reservation required
Learn about the experience of 19th century freedom seekers and Montgomery County residents. Discover techniques used for navigation, eluding detection, and finding food/shelter. Round trip hike is 2 miles on natural surface hiking trail. Woodlawn Museum visit included.

Group Self-Guided Hikes
Underground Railroad Experience Trail and park grounds open year-round, 7 days a week, sunrise – sunset. Free of charge. Be sure to visit our Educational Resources page for complementary resources for your visit.
Restroom facilities are available April – November, during normal museum hours or for groups with advance reservation. A portable restroom is also available onsite.
Groups of 35 or less- No reservation required.
Groups of 36 or more- 1-week advance reservation required. On short notice, groups of 75+ may not be able to be accommodated.
GUIDED GROUPS
Guided hikes of the Underground Railroad Experience Trail are available with advance reservation. At this time, we are unable to offer tours of the Woodlawn Museum. The Woodlawn Manor House is closed until further notice due to historic preservation work.
Reservations/Group Size: Reservations requests can be submitted via our form. Minimum 2 weeks advance reservation required. Due to staffing limitations, please be prepared with alternative dates.
A minimum of 15 paid admissions required on the day of your tour. Maximum group size is 75 people. Requests of 75+ require additional times/dates. Groups of 30 or more will be subdivided.
Guided group leaders must sign a Covid-19 waiver prior to their tour date. Tour participants must follow all current safety guidelines during their visit.
Payment of Fees: Payment is due the day of your tour in one lump sum. The group leader and bus drive admitted free. Educational field trips: 1 adult teacher/chaperone admitted free per 15 paid student admissions and bus drivers admitted free.
Credit cards accepted (Visa, MC, Discover, American Express). Checks should be made payable to: ActiveMontgomery. Upon request, invoicing available for schools and businesses.
PARKING: Free bus parking and 50+ spaces available for cars. Parking may be limited on weekends spring and fall.
PICNIC AREA/FOOD SERVICE: Picnic tables available on a first-come, first serve basis. No indoor dining space or food service available. Area restaurant and boxed lunch options available upon request.
RESTROOMS/GIFT SHOP: Open April – November during normal museum hours or for groups with advance reservation. Gift shop offers a selection of packaged snacks and tour related books and souvenirs- plan additional time during your visit.
ACCESSIBILITY: The Underground Railroad Experience Trail is not ADA accessible. The Woodlawn Museum is ADA accessible.
