Project Description
Montgomery Parks is planning to build seven new skate parks in Montgomery County. Before we begin to build new skate parks, we are looking for ideas and suggestions on what features would make our skate parks totally shreddable for skateboarders, in-line skaters, and bikers of all ages and abilities.
Montgomery Parks currently operates three skate parks:
And we are gearing up to build seven more:
Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park Skate Park
As part of a park-wide renovation, Montgomery Parks is building a new 12,000-square-foot skate park at Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park in Clarksburg. The design was developed through a community workshop and online survey. The park is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in Fall of 2025.
Wheaton Regional Park Action Sports Park
Wheaton Regional Park will be a hub for adventure sports! Montgomery Parks is in the preliminary design phase for a premier, regional action sports park that will include a large skate park, pump track, and bike skills course along with a parkour course, bouldering wall, play spaces, and social gathering spots. Introduced as part of the Wheaton Regional Park Master Plan in 2022, construction of this facility is expected to begin in 2027. We will seek public input as the project moves forward.
Long Branch Local Park Skate Park
Recommended as part of the Long Branch Parks Initiative and supported with Bond Bill funding from the State of Maryland, the Long Branch Local Park Skate Park will provide a skating opportunity easily accessible by public transportation including the new Purple Line. It is part of a larger park renovation that will increase active recreation opportunities in the Long Branch Area. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.
Centerway Local Park Skate Spot
Over 300 people signed a petition to build a skate park in Montgomery Village and thanks to Bond Bill funding from the State of Maryland, a 8,000-square-foot skate spot will be designed and built at Centerway Local Park. This smaller skate spot will offer a local option for those living in Montgomery Village. Public outreach for this project will be held in 2025 with construction anticipated in 2027.
Stoneybrook Local Park Skate Park
A 10,000-square-foot skate park is planned for Stoneybrook Local Park as part of an overall park refresher project. This park is in need of accessibility improvements and general updates which might include a circular path, updated ball fields, and more. This neighborhood park offers an opportunity for a shaded skatepark surrounded by mature trees. Planning is set to begin in 2026 and the skate park is funded through a Bond Bill from the State of Maryland.
South Germantown Recreational Park Skate Park
Building on the success of the popular South Germantown bike park, Montgomery Parks plans to build a new 10,000-square-foot skate park to complement the bike skills area and bike park. The long-term vision is to create an adventure sports park with a pump track, bike skills area, and skate park. Planning for this project is expected to begin in 2027.
Fairland Recreational Park Skate Park
A skate park is planned at Fairland Recreational Park thanks to a Bond Bill from the State of Maryland. This skatepark will start public outreach in 2027. This project will compliment the existing action sports amenities at the Pit at Fairland Bike Park and will fill in a major skate park gap for eastern Montgomery County.
