Olney Mill Neighborhood Park: Playground Renovation

Project Description

This project will renovate the existing playground while providing accessibility and stormwater management.  Olney Mill Neighborhood Park is located at 19600 Charline Manor Road in Olney, Maryland.

Background

The park’s existing amenities include a playground, lawn area, two lighted tennis/pickleball courts, a lighted basketball court, a picnic shelter, and a memorial. Accessibility improvements were completed last year and include the addition of parking spaces and ADA accessible routes to the tennis courts, basketball court, and picnic shelter.

The playground was constructed in its current location in 1998.  It will be removed, and a new playground will be installed.  Local park playgrounds are typically 3,500 to 5,000 square feet in size and include playground equipment to meet the needs of children from ages 2-12 and seating for caregivers.  Typical types of equipment include swings, play structures, and smaller freestanding pieces.

Status/Project Update

Based on the discussion at the October 19th community meeting, three locations within the park were examined by Parks staff as potential sites for the future playground. A list of pros and cons was created for each of the locations, and two alternative concepts were developed by Parks staff, for the two potential playground sites. Please provide your thoughts on the alternative concepts by taking the survey. The comment period ends on April 23, 2023.
