Olney Mill Neighborhood Park: Playground Renovation

Project Description

This project will renovate the existing playground while providing accessibility and stormwater management.  Olney Mill Neighborhood Park is located at 19600 Charline Manor Road in Olney, Maryland.

Background

The park’s existing amenities include a playground, lawn area, two lighted tennis/pickleball courts, a lighted basketball court, a picnic shelter, and a memorial. Accessibility improvements were completed last year and include the addition of parking spaces and ADA accessible routes to the tennis courts, basketball court, and picnic shelter.

The playground was constructed in its current location in 1998.  It will be removed, and a new playground will be installed.  Local park playgrounds are typically 3,500 to 5,000 square feet in size and include playground equipment to meet the needs of children from ages 2-12 and seating for caregivers.  Typical types of equipment include swings, play structures, and smaller freestanding pieces.

Status/Project Update

Alternative concepts for the playground were posted to the project webpage in Spring 2023 along with an Open Town Hall survey.  Based on community input received, Only Mill Neighborhood Playground Renovation Concept A was selected, and the new playground will be located at the existing playground site.  Detailed design is underway with construction on the new playground expected to begin in Spring 2024.

Links to review meeting notes and presentations will be attached to each applicable calendar event as scheduled and completed. * Date and time subject to change. Please contact the project manager for updates.
