Posed Photography Sessions at Agricultural History Farm Park
The Agricultural History Farm Park is a historic & picturesque 455-acre property in the heart of Montgomery County, Maryland. Agricultural History Farm Park is owned and operated by Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC), Montgomery Parks. User fees help us achieve our mission to preserve, protect, educate, and care for the park’s grounds and historical structures and grounds. Rates are based on the number of people, including the photographer, assistant(s), and photo subjects.
A photo permit is required for all posed photography sessions held 7 days a week, Sunrise to Sunset including family portraits, prom photos, quinceañeras, engagements, weddings, other life occasions, and all filmography.
Photo permit IS required when:
- Your photo session will be held between the hours of Sunrise to Sunset.
- The primary purpose of your visit is to capture photos or videos of your family or group.
- A photographer (professional, hobbyist, family/friend) accompanies you to take photos of your family or group.
- You or any party member is wearing formal attire/costume/wedding attire.
Photo permit IS NOT required if:
- Photos taken are personal mementos of your attendance at an AHFP program or event.
Please note: A permit is required anytime a professional quality camera is being used to take photos at the Agricultural History Farm Park, even for personal use. In some instances, the permit fee may be waived, however an approved permit application is still required for all photo sessions. Please reach out to the AHFP office for more information.
All park visitors must follow AHFP/Montgomery Parks rules and policies regardless of the time of day or if a photo permit is required. Montgomery Parks staff and M-NCPPC Park Police reserve the right to ask any person to leave who is not following park rules and policies.
Photography/Filmography Terms of Use
Receipt of Payment constitutes understanding of, and responsibility to comply with the Terms of Use listed below.
- Permits should be purchased at least 2 weeks prior by the photographer or session coordinator.
- Photo sessions are reserved in one-hour intervals only- no partial hours. You may book multiple one-hour sessions- a maximum of 3 Hours, except for groups of 26 or more. Your request must include the entire time you will be on the property for the photo session.
- Sessions are reserved as available and may not be permitted during scheduled events, periods of heavy public visitation or other scheduling factors.
- No parking on grass areas without staff permission, except in designated Visitor Parking area.
- Photo permits do not include indoor or restricted-use areas, pastures, and fenced areas.
- You agree not to disturb any signs, structures, fences, trees, plants, block paths, or climb fences/walls.
- Drones are prohibited at Agricultural History Farm Park.
- All M-NCPPC/Agricultural History Farm Park rules apply.
- Photo sessions can be rescheduled or transferred with 48 hours’ notice.
- No refunds are available.
- Clothing and props may not be hung from any park signs, structures, trees, or plants.
- Larger props are not permitted- including tables, chairs, clothing racks, free-standing arches, etc.
- Submission of a request form does not serve as an approved permit. An approved photo permit AND full payment are required before a photography session can be held.
Your Photo Session Guidelines
- Please arrive on time and adhere to your scheduled time.
- For the safety of all visitors, please be mindful of cords and equipment that pose a hazard.
- Costume pieces and hand-held props are permitted.
- The AHFP does not provide any available space for changing clothes. Visitors must not change clothes outside on park property where visible to other visitors.
- Please park in the designated Visitor Parking area.
- Reserved parking is not available.
- Parking is based on other scheduled programs, events, and photo sessions.
- If you plan on arriving in a limousine, bus, or other large vehicle, please indicate at the time of your permit request, so AHFP staff can direct you on where to park.
Hourly Rates Photography Filmography Rates are based on the number of people, including the photographer, assistant(s), and photo subjects.
Rates are charged in one-hour increments only – no partial hours. Multiple one-hour sessions may be purchased. Be sure to include the entire time you will be on the property including setup/breakdown and complete photography session. Reservation must include all participants- photographer, assistant(s), and photo subjects.

PARK RULES & POLICIES – Applies to all Park visitors at all times.
- All Park visitors must follow AHFP and Montgomery Parks rules and policies regardless of time of day, or if a photo permit is required. Montgomery Parks staff and M-NCPPC Park Police reserve the right to ask any person not following park rules and policies to leave.
- No balloons, cannons of any kind (smoke, confetti, streamers, etc.) or smoke machines are permitted.
- Park grounds and parking areas are open from sunrise to sunset only. Visitors are not permitted on the property before dawn or after dusk.
- Photo sessions must not interfere with others enjoyment of the Agricultural History Farm Park.
- Vehicle parking (including motorcycles) is permitted in designated parking areas only. Vehicles must not block entrance/exits, driveways or pathways.
- Reserved parking is not available. Parking is based upon park visitation, scheduled tours/programs/events & photo sessions. Please indicate on your request form if you plan on arriving in a limousine, bus, or other large vehicle so staff can assist you.
- Park visitors are not permitted to enter closed or restricted areas including buildings, pastures, fences, gated or locked areas. No disturbance of park signage, amenities, facilities, or structures. No climbing trees.
- Visitors must not block entrances, exits, driveways or pathways for park visitors. No trip hazards are allowed.
- Props: Costume pieces and hand-held props are allowed. Clothing and props may not be hung from any park sign, structure, tree, or plant. Large props are prohibited such as benches, tables, chairs, couches, clothing racks and free-standing arches.
- Drone photography is prohibited.
- No commercial signage or solicitation is allowed.
- No group gatherings of 10 or more people without prior authorization and permit.
- All photos published online or in print should include the location in the caption: “Agricultural History Farm Park Derwood, MD”
