Our Power, Our Planet: Celebrate Earth Month at Montgomery Parks

WHEATON, Md.- At Montgomery Parks, every day is Earth Day. During Earth Month, we invite everyone to get involved. Volunteer for a park cleanup or weed warrior event, liven up your garden with purchases from our native plant sales, or participate in one of our special Earth Month programs. Happy Earth Month!

Park cleanups

Join a local cleanup to help remove litter from a park, trail, or stream that would otherwise end up in our waterways.

Weed Warrior events

Save the trees! Volunteer to rid the environment of non-native, invasive plants at a Weed Warrior event in a park near you.

Share Fair | Saturday, April 18 | 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Black Hill Discovery Center, Boyds

Give your gently used, once-loved items a second life and promote reusing and reducing waste at this free community event. Attendees can participate as “Givers” and give their things away to new homes or come and “shop” the fair. Registration is required to be a “Giver.” For more information and to register, please visit the event page. Free.

D.C. Environmental Film Festival: Screening and Panel Discussion | Thursday, April 9 | 6:30-8:15 p.m.
Brookside Gardens, Wheaton

Free screening of “Gardening for the Planet,” a documentary showcasing the power of native plant gardening to combat biodiversity loss and climate change. Expert panel discussion of native plant choices, sustainability, conservation, and how to make a difference right in your own backyard follows. Space is limited; registration required. Free.

Earth Day Celebration | Sunday, April 26 | 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Brookside Gardens, Wheaton

Bring the family to celebrate Earth Day with activities geared toward children and their families. Explore the science and art of sustainability through youth-driven projects, plantings, and crafts. Registration is encouraged but not required. Free.

Earth Day With the Owls | Wednesday, April 22 | 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Meadowside Nature Center, Rockville

Observe the owls on the raptor deck and learn about their amazing adaptations and how they contribute to a healthy ecosystem. Afterwards, make a take-home seed bomb to attract pollinators and contribute to a healthy environment. Celebrate Earth Day with the owls!  $7.
