Residents can also weigh in on amenities for Elm Street Urban Park in online survey.
WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks is inviting the public to provide input on the amenities planned for the northern portion of Elm Street Urban Park by joining a virtual meeting on November 20, 2024.
What: Elm Street Urban Park Virtual Community Meeting
When: Wednesday, November 2024, 7:00-8:30 p.m.
Where: Online at https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87535584894#success
The park, located at 4600 Elm Street in downtown Bethesda, is near the future Purple Line light rail line. The park is being reconfigured so the Montgomery County Department of Transportation can route the Capital Crescent Trail from Willow Lane and 47th Street through the park to the Purple Line, where it will run parallel to the light rail tracks
The concept for the park and trail was approved by the Montgomery County Planning Board in 2021. Now, Montgomery Parks’ landscape architects are proposing several amenities for the renovated area, including a playground for 2 to 5-year-olds, another play area for 5 to 12-year-olds, and a fitness area suitable for ages 13 and older.
Additional proposed improvements include accessibility upgrades, tree planting, stormwater management, and improvements to the Elm Street pedestrian promenade.
“Montgomery Parks is pleased to reenergize this area and make it appealing to more park visitors of all ages,” said Matt Weir, project manager of the renovation. “I am confident that working with the input from the public, we can fine-tune the design to its highest potential.”
The public can take a closer look at the project on the Elm Street Urban Park project webpage. The community can also weigh in on the amenities by taking the Open Town Hall online survey. The survey will remain open until Saturday, December 7, 2024.
