Second Saturdays at Oakley Cabin

Have fun learning about history this summer through special presentations and hands-on activities Saturdays from 1 pm – 3 pm at Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park. Free and appropriate for families with children of all ages.

Saturday, July 12
Journey to the 1880s to learn “A Washerwoman’s Story” and meet this person from the past, portrayed by master storyteller, Sheila Arnold. Explore the historic log cabin and make crafts. Co-sponsored by Story Tapestries.

Saturday, August 9
Explore Oakley Cabin’s natural environment with museum educator and Master Naturalist, Tammy Shepherd as she leads visitors on a search to identify plants, insects and wildlife using the new iNaturalist app for the Oakley Cabin Natural Resources Project.

Saturday, September 13
Celebrate African rhythms by making your own musical instrument based on traditional African and South American percussion instruments – using ordinary objects.
