Maryland Emancipation Day at Josiah Henson Museum and Park

Event Details

Maryland Emancipation Day commemorates the ratification of the Maryland Constitution of 1864, which officially abolished slavery within the state and emancipated all those still held in bondage. Join us on Saturday, November 2!

All Day Events:

  • Hands-On Activities in the Riley-Bolten House (Included with admission)
  • Lawn Games (Included with admission)
  • Self-guided tours (Included with admission)
  • PG County’s Sankofa Mobile Museum (Admission not required)

Timed Event:

11 am: Children’s story time / author talk with Treava Hopkins-Laboy (Included with admission)

Admission: FREE

Montgomery County Commission on Remembrance and Reconciliation has agreed to sponsor FREE admission on Saturday, November 2nd. Remembrance and Reconciliation Month activities, R&R MMonth (montgomerycountymd.gov) are happening throughout Montgomery County.

Parking: Parking for the Josiah Henson Museum and Park is located at 5900 Executive Blvd, a 1.5-block walk. Limited accessible parking is located at the main Visitor Center.
