Montgomery Parks to hold a hands-on art workshop at historic Oakley Cabin

WHEATON, Md.Montgomery Parks is inviting art enthusiasts to a unique Wood and Wine event at Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park in Olney, on December 6, 2025. Local artist Anna Fogg will guide the group in crafting a one-of-a-kind wooden art piece. The event blends creativity, history, and community in a memorable evening of hands-on artistry.

When:    Saturday, December 6, 2025 | 5:00-8:00 p.m. 
Where:   Oakley Cabin African American Museum & Park 
3610 Brookeville Road, Olney, MD 20832 
Tickets:  $50 (includes craft materials, food, and beverage) Register via  ActiveMontgomery.  Ages 21+ 

Set against the backdrop of the historic Oakley Cabin, the immersive experience includes crafting inside the cabin, enjoying a rustic spread of smoked meats, roasted vegetables, and sipping warm mulled wine around an outdoor firepit. Participants are advised to dress appropriately for the weather.

“Wood and Wine is a wonderful way to welcome the winter season,” said Shirl Spicer, cultural resources museums planning supervisor at Montgomery Parks. “It’s about slowing down, connecting with others, and celebrating creativity in a truly special historical setting.”   

Spaces are limited at Wood and Wine to ensure a personal hands-on experience. The event is suitable for a general audience – prior art experience is not required. 

About Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park 
Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park is a living history site that interprets the stories of a 19th century roadside community in Olney. Originally built as housing for enslaved laborers on the Oakley Farm, the cabin later became home to many free Black families after Emancipation. Visitors can also explore the site through an augmented reality experience, which allows visitors to scan QR codes with their cell phone or other mobile device to unlock information and images while on the property.
