Stretch into spring with Montgomery Parks’ Park Academy Series

WHEATON, Md. – This spring is shaping up to be a season of movement, mindfulness, and wellness at Montgomery Parks. The Park Academy Series offers energizing yoga and Pilates classes, invigorating fitness classes, and even tree climbing for the young and young at heart. The spring session starts March 3, and registration opens on February 17.

The Park Academy Series takes place in neighborhood parks to bring fitness, wellness, and learning close to home for participants. Programs are offered for all age groups and are held outdoors in local parks or in park activity buildings.  

Wellness Highlights:

Early risers can greet the day with Rise and Shine Flow Yoga, offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Tilden Woods and Kensington Cabin local parks. This invigorating class blends mindful breathwork and movement to set a positive tone for the day ahead.

Families can share the mat with Toddler and You Yoga at Tilden Woods Local Park in Potomac on Thursdays and Saturdays, where stretching, singing, and creative play come together in a joyful introduction to movement and mindfulness.

For older adults, Yoga for Strength and Vitality (Ages 55+) offers gentle yet active sessions at Tilden Woods Local Park and Kensington Cabin Local Park on various days throughout the spring season. These classes focus on flexibility, balance, and energy, with chair options available for modifications.

Looking to turn up the energy? MitranDe Bhangra Dance brings rhythm, culture, and cardio together in one joyful experience. Held Tuesday evenings at Clarksburg Local Park, this high-energy class celebrates the vibrant Punjabi folk dance known for its powerful movements and infectious music. Equal parts workout and cultural celebration, Bhangra boosts coordination, elevates mood, and creates a welcoming, stress-free environment where dancers of all backgrounds can connect and have fun.

Want to strengthen your core? Check out Pilates Mat at Argyle Local Park in Silver Spring on Tuesdays and Thursdays with this Level 1 Pilates mat class that blends traditional techniques for strengthening and toning with a modern twist.

Unleash your inner rock star with POUND Fitness on Thursdays at Southeast Olney Local Park. This drumming-inspired cardio workout uses lightly weighted Ripstix to combine music, movement, and stress relief into one unforgettable experience. With influences from Pilates, strength training, and plyometrics, POUND is the perfect way to de-stress.

Jog to Yoga is a running and yoga mashup that combines running fundamentals with yoga’s restorative benefits. This unique midday class on Wednesdays at Meadowbrook Local Park starts with dynamic warm-ups followed by a progressive walk/jog intervals around Meadowbrook and Rock Creek Park

For the adventurous, emBARK on Canopy Connection at Clarksburg Local Park. In April, teens can learn essential rope skills, knot tying, rope ascension, and safety basics from professionals, while exploring an exciting potential career path. In May, adults ages 55 and older can rediscover the joy of tree climbing, this time with a safety net. Canopy Connection is a one-day program.
