Sligo-Bennington Neighborhood Park – Playground Renovation

An image of the future proposed concept for Sligo-Bennington playground renovation featuring the proposed new playground and nature play area.

Project Description

This project aims to renovate the playground, which dates back to the 1990s, and add a nature play area. The playground is well-used by the neighborhood and is in need of replacement.

Background

Sligo-Bennington Neighborhood Park is located in Silver Spring, near the Seven Oaks and South Woodside Park neighborhood, and within the Sligo Creek stream valley. Acquired by M-NCPPC in 1932, the 6.3-acre park is bordered by Colesville Road, and can be accessed off Sligo Creek Parkway and Bennington Drive. The park features several different attractions including a playground, a multiuse field, two tennis courts, a picnic area, and walking and biking trails.

Status/Project Update

The first community meeting will be on April 23, 2025, from 7-8 PM via Zoom, where Montgomery Parks staff will introduce the playground renovation project. Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the Open Town Hall survey.
