Project Overview
Montgomery Parks is excited to plan a brand-new playground at Layhill Local Park with the goal of creating a fun, imaginative play space that enhances the park and serves the entire community. Currently, the park includes two softball fields, a soccer field, a picnic shelter with a grill, a small playground, and a pedestrian bridge over Buckhorn Branch. Bounded to the east by the Northwest Branch of the Anacostia River, this park contains substantial forest around its edges.
This project will replace the existing playground in a similar location, expanding its footprint and adding modern, engaging play equipment. The new design will offer play opportunities for all ages and may feature a nature-inspired theme.
Additional Park Improvements Include:
- Parking lot enhancements
- Stormwater management facilities
- Accessible pathways connecting all park amenities
Status/Project Update
A virtual community meeting is scheduled for December 11, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. During the meeting, staff will review the goals of the playground renovation and gather input regarding the theme, types of play, desired equipment, and other items related to the playground.
We also invite the public to participate in an online survey and share their feedback. The comment period is open until January 31st, 2026.
