Project Description
Montgomery Parks is planning to commission a mural on the Glenmont Local Park activity building and is excited about the opportunity to introduce public art at this location. We believe the mural should reflect the history, values, stories and aspirations of this diverse neighborhood and hope that it will enliven the building and engage residents. Montgomery Parks is seeking community input on the theme or themes for the proposed mural. Montgomery Parks requested community feedback on the theme or themes for the proposed mural. The comment period was open until August 30, 2024.
This mural project is made possible by a generous grant from the Montgomery Parks Foundation.
Activity Building and Park Background
Montgomery Parks owns and operates 19 Park Activity Buildings. They offer a convenient and affordable options for residents to host all types of gatherings. The Glenmont Park Activity Building sits within Glenmont Local Park on Randolph Road in Wheaton and sits adjacent to a small playground. The building was constructed in 1954 as a purpose-built recreation center and underwent a modest renovation in 2018. Architecturally, the community building is a mid-century modern design. The public face of the building on Randolph Road is a blank facade. This wall originally featured a large picture window that has since been bricked in.
