Montgomery Parks staff judges 2024 Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest

National art competition raises money and awareness for conservation.

WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks’ Jennifer Scully, Regional Operations Manager and waterfowl aficionado has put her stamp of approval on the winner of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s 2024 Federal Duck Art Stamp Contest. Scully served as a judge for the prestigious national art contest, and with a panel of four peers selected this year’s winner, Adam Grimm of Wallace, South Dakota for his acrylic painting of a pair of spectacled eiders.

The Federal Duck Stamp Program raises awareness and money for wetland habitat conservation through sales of the highly sought-after Federal Duck Stamp. The program has raised more than $1.3 billion for wetland conservation and has been the most successful conservation program run by the U.S. Federal government.

Judges for the Federal Duck Stamp Contest

Scully learned about the competition in elementary school from her art teacher and submitted entries. Since 2021, she served as a judge for the Federal Junior National Duck Stamp Art Contest. Last year, she was the alternate for the first-ever all-women judging panel for the Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest and was honored to be on this year’s panel of judges.

“I love the Federal Duck Stamp Program because it brings hunters, conservationists, and artists together and encourages budding artists and anyone who enjoys time outdoors to learn about the program,” said Scully.

In her previous role with Montgomery Parks, Scully managed the Black Hill Discovery Center, one of Montgomery Parks’ five nature centers. The center hosted the Federal Duck Stamp winners exhibition every year while Scully was the manager. This year’s winner’s exhibition will be hosted in February 2025 at The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission’s headquarters building in Wheaton, Md.
