Wheaton, Md. – Montgomery Parks is calling on residents, visitors, and park lovers to help celebrate a century of parks by sharing their favorite photos for a new “Images of America” book.
The book will commemorate the 100th anniversary of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) and tell the story of Montgomery Parks through photographs that capture the people, places, and moments that have shaped the park system over the last 100 years.
Montgomery Parks welcomes photo submissions of all types, including historic and recent images, black-and-white or color photographs, pictures of people enjoying parks, community events, and scenic park landscapes. Photos may be submitted online by July 17, 2026. There is also an option to provide photos by mail, indicated on the webpage where online submissions are accepted.
Selected photos will be featured in the book, and contributors will receive photo credit. The book will be published in April 2027. It will be available for purchase at M-NCPPC facilities, including Brookside Gardens and the Josiah Henson Museum and Park, as well as other local outlets.
“Montgomery Parks has been part of countless memories and experiences over the past century,” said Jamie Ferguson, Montgomery Parks historian. “This book is an opportunity to celebrate the people, places, and stories that make our park system special. We hope community members will share their photos and help us bring Montgomery Parks’ history to life as we mark this important milestone.”
The project aims to showcase the diversity of Montgomery Parks, from neighborhood parks and playgrounds to trails, natural areas, recreation facilities, and community events. Through public contributions, the book will create a visual record of how Montgomery Parks has connected people to nature, recreation, and one another for generations.
