WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks knows access to restrooms is a priority for park users. The department is conducting a county-wide online survey on restroom facilities in parks. The survey will help planners understand usage patterns and access to park restrooms. The survey is open now through April 19, 2026.
“We often hear that restroom access is essential for park visitors, but we don’t always hear what specific features or access matter most,” said Henry Coppola, Montgomery Parks’ long-range planning supervisor. “Because restrooms can be complex to design and build, this survey is an important opportunity to hear directly from the community about what matters most when it comes to restroom access.”
The survey is part of a multi-year initiative to improve accessibility and quality of restroom facilities throughout Montgomery Parks. For the past two years, staff have been collecting data on park restrooms including their physical infrastructure, operational status, and maintenance costs. Last fall, Montgomery Parks hosted two engagement events in parks to gather information from park users. Four additional engagement events are planned for this spring. Details of those events will be posted on the restroom initiative webpage.
