With Parks in Mind is an event held in May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month. The event is designed to promote awareness and well-being through fun outdoor activities. Attendees can participate in free classes such as dance yoga and laugh yoga, which are designed to relieve stress and promote emotional well-being.

“There is a well-researched link between being in nature and physical and mental health,” said Ashlyn Thompson, Montgomery Parks inclusion and community outreach specialist. “We hope this event will encourage people to stop, take a breath and enjoy the fun and mindful activities.”

With Parks in Mind is a collaboration with EveryMind, an organization that has provided mental health services in Maryland and the national capital region since 1957.

“EveryMind is delighted to join Montgomery Parks for the With Parks in Mind event,” said Jennifer Grinnell, director of mental health education at EveryMind. “This partnership underscores our dedication to supporting our neighbors’ mental well-being through the healing power of nature.  Join us in celebrating community and wellness.”

Other activities planned for the day include a pet adoption pop-up event, nature scavenger hunt, crafts, and a letter writing exercise to spread kindness to others. Additionally, Germantown Town Center Urban Park offers open lawn areas for recreation, loop walking trails, and attractive wetlands that create a natural habitat for wildlife.
