WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks’ recent soft opening of its first 18-hole disc golf course at Northwest Branch Recreational Park is creating a buzz among local players. The course, at 1313 Bonifant Road in Silver Spring, opened for play November 8. During its first weekend, more than 100 rounds of disc golf were played and logged on UDisc, a popular app used by the disc golf community.
“The public has been asking for more disc golf courses, and we are thrilled to deliver,” said Evan Dintaman, project manager for Montgomery Parks. “Disc golf is easy to learn, fun for all ages, and a great way to enjoy the outdoors. If you can throw a frisbee, you can play disc golf.”
The new course is open every day, during daylight hours. It is free to play and features two nine-hole loops, designed for players of all skill levels. Like swing golf, the objective is to complete each hole in as few throws as possible. While there is no fee to play, participants must bring their own discs which are widely available in stores and online.
Located adjacent to the National Capital Trolley Museum (NCTM), the course shares a parking lot with the museum, though the building remains reserved for museum visitors only.
Construction of additional amenities for the disc golf course is beginning this winter, including:
- A shaded plaza with pavilion
- Picnic tables
- Bike racks
- Portable restrooms
- Drinking fountain
A grand opening celebration will follow the completion of these improvements in the summer of 2026.
