“We are so excited that Mudfest is going strong five years after we started it,” said Mudfest organizer Katrina Fauss. “Its popularity and yearly growth prove there is a desire for people to get out in nature, get dirty and just have fun.”
Mudfest is hosted by the Black Hill Discovery Center. Parks’ staff prepare the mud in advance by screening for rocks and making sure it is the perfect texture for sculpting and sliding. Features include a giant mudslide, a mud volcano, and a pop-up kitchen for making mud pies.
Mudfest fun will be fueled by food available for purchase from El Jefe Woodfired Pizza and snow cones from Clayboy’s Shave Ice. A DJ will provide the soundtrack and souvenir T-shirts, toys and accessories will be on sale.
Know before you go:
- Bring plastic buckets, shovels, and wheelbarrows to craft the perfect mud castles
- Bring sleds to go down the mud slide and goggles to splash in the pools
- Hose off areas, changing tents, and bags for muddy clothing available
- Keep wounds covered
- Pets are welcome but must be kept on leash and out of the mud

- This is a family event. Be kind and have fun!
