Montgomery Parks March special events and programs

WHEATON, Md.— Activities abound at Montgomery Parks this March – celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and Women’s History Month, delve deeper into African American history, participate in an inclusive experience at the Agricultural History Farm Park, upcycle wedding items, and more.

Montgomery Parks’ March events highlights include:

Acoustics and Ales | March 8 | 11 a.m.–2 p.m.
North Four Corners Local Park, Silver Spring

Get an early start celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at Acoustics and Ales. Entertainment from Irish band, Barleyjuice, food from Once Upon a Potato, Curds and Cuts, Silver & Sons BBQ, and drinks from Silver Branch Brewing, Two Story Chimney Cider Works, Silly Yak Beer, and Brookeville Beer Farm. Join us and may the sunshine warm upon your face. All ages. Free.

Rockwood Manor’s Upcycled Wedding Fair | March 9 | 11 a.m.‒3 p.m.
Rockwood Manor ‒ Retreats & Events, Potomac

Shop unique, gently used wedding-related items at great prices. Also, tour the property and get information and advice from experts on planning your big day. All ages. Free. Flora & Fauna of Montgomery County Spring Series | March 12‒May 21 (Wednesdays) | 6‒9 p.m.
Montgomery Parks Virtual

Have you ever wanted to learn the names of birds that visit your backyard, the wildflowers along the trail, or what animal left that footprint in the mud? This online learning series for adults teaches you how to recognize the most common species in Montgomery County. Ages 18 and older. $120 per person, full series; $30 per person, per class. Inclusive Sensory Saturday | March 15 | 10 a.m.–12 p.m.
Agricultural History Farm Park, Derwood

The Farm Park is partnering with Montgomery Parks’ Program Access to offer an inclusive experience for visitors with sensory sensitivities. A variety of alternative seating fidget tools, and other sensory-friendly materials will be provided. All ages. $5 per person. Register for Inclusive Sensory Saturday.

Introduction to Landscape Design: Sessions I and II | March 15 and 29 | 10 a.m.‒12 p.m.
Brookside Gardens Virtual

In the first session, learn practical steps to approach the design process, including site analysis, creating concept design and determining the functional goals for the space. In the second session, learn to implement core design elements, such as color, texture, form, line, and scale to create a beautiful and functional landscape. Plant combinations and lists will also be examined that address site-specific challenges. Ages 18 and older. $15 per person, per session. Registration required (Session I; Session II).

Seed Design Challenge | March 16 | 10‒11 a.m.
Brookside Gardens, Wheaton

Kids, think you can design a new type of seed that can travel farther than our local species? Take this engineering design challenge and find out. Ages 8‒12. $10 per person. Register for Seed Design Challenge.

Cultivating a Sustainable Future: Cornell Botanic Gardens’ Native Lawn | March 20 | 7‒8:30 p.m.

Join Todd Bittner, director of natural areas, Cornell Botanic Gardens, as he discusses a visionary lawn paradigm shift where lush, low-growing native grasses and forbs take center stage over traditional lawns that offer no biodiversity, are sources of air and water pollution and require significant maintenance. History Hour: African Labor, Language and Lifeways in American Culture | March 20 | 6–7 p.m.
Josiah Henson Museum and Park, North Bethesda (Parking is located at Wall Local Park at 5900 Executive Boulevard, North Bethesda)

Director of the African American Studies Institute at Prince George’s Community College, Dr. Iyelli Ichile, will speak on the impacts of African labor, language and lifeways on American culture from the 17th century to the present. Refreshments provided. Ages 12 and older. $5 per person. Purchase tickets for History Hour.

Adaptive Mountain Biking Clinic | March 22 | 10:30 a.m.–2 p.m.
Little Bennett Regional Park, Clarksburg

Program is exclusively designed for individuals with disabilities to experience the thrill of mountain biking. Detailed information about available bikes, eligibility requirements and trails at Little Bennett Regional Park will be provided upon registration and on our website. This event consists of two 90-minute sessions. Ages 16 and older. Free. Register for Adaptive Mountain Biking Clinic.

Youth Nature Photography | March 22 | 11 a.m.‒12 p.m.
Brookside Gardens, Wheaton

Take a closer look at the natural world through the lens of a camera in this beginner-friendly program. Learn tips and strategies for getting the most out of your outdoor photos and learn about nature along the way. Bring your camera (phone cameras count) or borrow one of ours. Ages 13‒18. $10 per person. Register for Youth Nature Photography.

Women of Woodlawn Walking Tour | March 29 | 1–1:45 p.m. and 3–3:45 p.m.
Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park, Sandy Spring

In celebration of Women’s History Month, this special “Women of Woodlawn” tour will explore societal norms of women from the early 1800s to the 1970s and provide a rare glimpse of original 19th century documents not normally on display. The guided tour includes interior and exterior spaces. Tours are approximately 45 minutes. Ages 16 and older. $5 per person. Advance registration recommended. Purchase tickets for Women of Woodlawn. (Limited tickets will be available to purchase the day-of at the Visitor Center.)

Sunday Serenade | March 30 | 10–11:30 a.m.
Cabin John Regional Park, Bethesda

A new season of Sunday Serenade begins. R&B and Neo-Soul singer-songwriter ZADIA will be performing. Local food vendor Ella’s Bake Shop will be on site selling breakfast snack items. Guests are encouraged to bring their blankets and lawn chairs, along with family and friends. All ages. Free.

School’s Outside for Teens | March 31 | 9 a.m.‒3:30 p.m.
Brookside Gardens, Wheaton

School’s out and it’s the perfect opportunity to spend the day at Brookside Gardens. Teens will enjoy a variety of activities, including games, hands-on botany, arts and crafts, and garden walks. Ages 11‒14. $45 per teen. Register for School’s Outside for Teens.

Park Academy Series classes:

Ages 55 and older. Register for Yoga for Stength and Vitality. 12 sessions: $108 per person.

Ages 2–5 (plus one adult). Register for Toddler and You. Thursday: 12 sessions- $144 per child; Saturday: 10 sessions- $120 per child.

Ages 18 and older. Register for Partnering Dance 101. 6 sessions: $54 per person.

Ages 18 and older. Register for Intro to Nordic Walking. 3 sessions: $30 per person.

Ages 18 and older. Register for POUND Fitness. 8 sessions: $72 per person.
