Montgomery Parks kicks off the summer season of Parks Playhouse Junior series

WHEATON, Md.— Get ready to sing, dance, and laugh out loud as Montgomery Parks kicks off Parks Playhouse Junior performances, featuring the science-themed tunes of Marsha and the Positrons and the delightfully absurd theatrics of Happenstance Theater. This series of free outdoor performances offers the perfect way for families to start their summer mornings with creativity and fun. All performances are from 10 to 11 a.m. and recommended for ages 2 to 8.

Grab your picnic blankets and lawn chairs for a fun, family-friendly hour of live entertainment to engage curious minds and joyful hearts. Pack some snacks and turn the morning into a picnic to enrich the body and the mind while enjoying the show.

Marsha and the Positrons

With a sound described by The Washington Post as “jazz-flavored, poppy rock” and lyrics that are “delightfully catchy,” this Washington, D.C.-based kindie (kids + indie) band combines music and science to spark curiosity in young audiences. Known for their upbeat performances and positive social messaging, Marsha and the Positrons bring a vibrant energy that gets kids moving, thinking, and singing along.

Happenstance Theater

Returning to the Parks Playhouse Junior stage with their charming production PREPOSTEROUS!, this acclaimed ensemble offers a poetic blend of humor, whimsy, and physical theater. Under the artistic co-direction of Mark Jaster and Sabrina Mandell, Happenstance Theater transforms everyday moments into magical theatrical experiences. In this pocket-sized circus extravaganza, a troupe of vintage clowns will delight audiences with live music, physical comedy, and even a slow-motion pie fight — designed to spark imagination and ignite laughter for all ages.

About Parks Playhouse Junior

Parks Playhouse Junior is a seasonal series from Montgomery Parks that brings high-quality children’s performances to local parks across the county.
