WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks is taking to the ice to celebrate the Washington Capitals ice hockey great Alex Ovechkin, and his record-breaking goal, this Thursday, April 10, 2025, with a special Great 8 Skates event. Ovechkin set the world record with his 895th goal this past Sunday, April 6, 2025, surpassing the goal previously set by former hockey great Wayne Gretzky. Admission and skate rental to afternoon public skating sessions at Wheaton and Cabin John Ice Arenas will be $8—a $5 discount.
“We want to keep up the excitement in this area related to Alex Ovechkin’s record-breaking goal this week,” said Jennifer Cashen, skating director for Montgomery Parks Wheaton and Cabin John Ice Arenas. “We hope all our local hockey players, enthusiasts, and friends will join us at this special Great 8 Skate event.”
