WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks invites the community to celebrate the completion of a vibrant new mural at Glenmont Local Park in Wheaton.
What: Community Mural Celebration
When: Saturday, December 6, 2025 | 1 – 3 p.m.
Where: Glenmont Local Park activity building | 3201 Randolph Road, Wheaton, MD 20902
Details: Free and open to the public
Guests at the mural celebration will enjoy light refreshments, arts and crafts, and have the chance to meet the talented artists from Baltimore-based Red Swan mural studio, the team behind the design and installation of the artwork.
Titled “Rooted and Radiant,” the mural was selected through a public vote and celebrates the rich cultural diversity of the Glenmont community. It features plants and birds native to Maryland alongside species from Latin American countries that are most represented in Glenmont – El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico. The artwork revitalizes the south facade of the park’s mid-century modern activity building, originally constructed in 1954 and last renovated in 2018.
“Public art has the power to shape how people experience our parks,” said Samantha Shron, architectural supervisor for Montgomery Parks. “This mural will serve as a welcoming icon symbolizing the energy and diversity that define Glenmont.”
The project was made possible by a generous grant from the Montgomery Parks Foundation as part of an ongoing initiative to bring more art into public spaces.
“The selection and creation of the mural is a testament to the power of community collaboration and creativity,” said Katie Rictor, executive director of the Montgomery Parks Foundation. “We hope it becomes a cultural landmark that fosters a sense of belonging for Glenmont residents and park visitors.”
