
WHEATON, Md. – Make spring break both fun and enriching with Montgomery Parks. From ice skating camps and outdoor adventures to hands-on history, there’s something for every kid to explore. Discover the camps and activities happening Friday, March 27, through Sunday, April 26.
Seasonal attractions
Spring Eye Spy Trains | March 28 – April 26 | 9:30 a.m. –4:30 p.m.
Cabin John Miniature Train, Bethesda and Wheaton Miniature Train, Wheaton
The miniature trains open for the season daily during MCPS spring break (March 28–April 6) and weekends throughout April. Riders receive an “Eye Spy” card to spot seasonal items along the tracks. Train tickets: $6; children under 2 ride for free with a paying adult. Carousel tickets: $4 (Wheaton only).
The Butterfly Experience | Opens April 1–Sept. 7 | 9 a.m. –3 p.m., daily
Be surrounded by hundreds of brilliant butterflies from the Americas, Africa, and Asia as they flutter among vibrant, lush tropical blooms. Tickets: $10.99 – Children ages 3-12 (includes $1.99 service fee); $15.99 – Ages 13 and older (includes $1.99 service fee); Free – Children under 3 (ticket required).
Spring Break for History
Josiah Henson Museum and Park | April 1–2 | 10 a.m. –1 p.m.
Josiah Henson Museum and Park, North Bethesda
Interactive, self-guided activities invite families to explore local history while school is out. Admission: $6 children/seniors; $7 adults.
Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park | April 2, 3, and 4 | 10 a.m. –4 p.m.
Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park, Sandy Spring
Special spring break hours and guided hikes on the Underground Railroad Experience Trail on April 3 and 4 at 10 a.m. Hike is appropriate for ages 7 and older. Museum admission: $6 children/seniors; $7 adults. Hike: $10 adults; $8 children/seniors; free for children 5 and under.
Spring Break Sports and Recreation Camps
Multiple camps will run March 27–April 3, including:
Spring Break Tennis Days | Daily, March 30 – April 3 | 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Pauline Betz Addie Tennis Center (Bethesda) and Wheaton Indoor Tennis (Wheaton), ages 8–15. $100 per day.
Spring Into Skating Camp | March 30 – April 3 | 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Wheaton Ice Arena, Wheaton,
Designed for skaters who want to grow, glide, and start the new season with confidence. Will include both on and off ice instruction. Ages 6–14. $60 per day.
Spring Break Advanced Freestyle Camp | March 30 – April 3 | 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Cabin John Ice Rink, Bethesda
Designed for athletes who are currently competing and testing through the U.S. Figure Skating pipeline. Spend the week learning both on and off ice drills to improve performance. Ages 6–17. $60 per day.
Spring Egg Hunt | March 27 | 2-3 p.m. and 4-5 p.m.
Meadowside Nature Center, Rockville
A self-guided egg hunt where children search for eggs and trade them in for a prize. Session 1 is for ages 0-5 years; session 2 is for ages 6-10 years. $7.
Spring Break Teen Stewardship Team | March 30–April 3 | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Locust Grove Nature Center, Bethesda
Teens can earn SSL hours while helping remove invasive plants, plant native wildflowers, and care for park gardens and trails. Ages 14–17. Free.
Art Outside for Teens | March 31 | 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
Brookside Gardens, Wheaton
Teens explore nature photography, watercolor painting, and zine making during a day of outdoor creativity. Ages 11–14. $45 per day.
Let’s Do Something Wacky | April 3 | 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
Meadowside Nature Center, Rockville
Kids can experiment with messy science activities and marshmallow launches led by a naturalist. Ages 6–9. $10.
Junior Historians | April 6 | 1– 3 p.m.
Agricultural History Farm Park, Derwood
Hands-on activities introduce children to historical tools, techniques, and traditions. Ages 5–8. $15.
