WHEATON, Md.— Montgomery Parks and Montgomery County’s Recreation Department, announce the return of “Under the Lights” summer flag football series. The free, five-week programs (two sessions, each lasting five weeks) are designed to foster community spirit, promote physical activity, and provide a fun, inclusive environment for players in grades 6 – 12. Players will learn the basics of the game, participate in drills, and team-based competitions. An all-girls division will be offered (based on enrollment).

“We’re excited to bring back the Under the Lights Flag Football program this summer, building on the momentum and community enthusiasm we saw with the fall program,” said Adriane Clutter, Acting Director for Montgomery County Recreation. “This program reflects the best of what recreation is all about—partnerships that foster teamwork, healthy competition, and a sense of belonging for our youth.”
“Montgomery Parks is pleased to offer our high-quality fields free of charge, for kids of all abilities to enjoy the game of flag football,” said Darren Flusche, deputy director of administration for Montgomery Parks. “We know that not every young person who wants to play on our fields is part of an organized league, and so they may not always have the opportunity. This is their chance. We can’t wait to see everyone come out and play.” added Flusche.
Flag football enthusiasts of all skill levels have an opportunity to play under the evening sky at the following locations:
- Good Hope Local Park: Games will be held every Monday from July 7 through August 4, from 5 to 9 p.m. Register here on ActiveMONTGOMERY.
- Martin Luther King Jr. Recreational Park: Games will be held every Friday from July 11 through August 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. Register here on ActiveMONTGOMERY.
Registration is encouraged; however, drop-in play is welcome.
All necessary equipment will be provided, and no prior experience is required. Participants are encouraged to bring enthusiasm and team spirit.
