Make magical summer memories with Montgomery Parks Playhouse Junior

WHEATON, Md.— Montgomery Parks is providing morning fun and enrichment this summer with an exciting lineup of Parks Playhouse Junior performances. From magical marionettes to bubbling bubbles and lots of music, this summer’s performers are bringing the magic of live children’s entertainment to parks around the county.

Each show is from 10 to 11 a.m., and appropriate for ages 2-5 (unless noted). Bring your picnic blankets or lawn chairs, grab some snacks, and get ready to make memories with your little ones.

The Puppet Co.

Join the beloved puppeteers from Glen Echo’s The Puppet Co. for a performance of “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.”

Jonna Productions Bubble Show

Watch in awe as Jonna creates a mesmerizing dreamscape with cascades of shimmering bubbles of different sizes and hues. From delicate floating orbs to spectacular swirling displays, this enchanting experience captivates audiences of all ages.

Happenstance Theater

Join Happenstance Theater for a collaborative experience. Using simple tools such as humor, music, physical comedy, and a touch of whimsy, Happenstance Theater focuses on the moment performers and audiences meet, gently blurring the line between imagination and reality and inviting audiences to feel part of the performance itself.

Teresa Jiménez

Teresa Jiménez leads a fun-filled music experience for you and your little one, with songs in English and Spanish. Teresa is joined by renowned local musicians Ian Riggs and Priscilla Lima.

Shake It Up Jam

Singer and DJ Lisa Matthews’ Shake It Up combines engaging music with immersive props to make an unforgettable dance party!

Rocknoceros

Rocknoceros has entertained thousands of fans around the country, performing at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and the Kennedy Center. The group has won ten Washington Area Music Awards and found its way into the hearts and homes of music lovers of all ages.

Culture Queen

Jessica “Culture Queen” Smith is an award-winning children’s performer, educator, playwright, curator, and arts leader. She creates vibrant, immersive cultural arts experiences that spark joy and curiosity, celebrate personal heritage, and honor the traditions of cultures around the world.

The Great Zucchini

The Great Zucchini is a beloved fixture of the Washington, DC area for over 25 years. Voted a top- kids’ show by five magazines, he’s performed at the White House, embassies, the 9:30 Club, and is the only children’s entertainer to appear at DC Improv. This belly-laughing performance is not to be missed. Ages 2-7.

Turtle Dance Music

Join us for a high-energy comedy, bubble, and music show featuring beloved classics and original children’s songs and stories. This sensory-rich performance invites kids to sing, laugh, move, and imagine together. Designed to be inclusive for all children—including those on the autism spectrum—it’s a joyful experience for kids, parents, and educators alike.

The Uncle Devin Show

Feel the beat at this highly interactive musical journey led by celebrated Grammy-nominated children’s drummer and music educator “Uncle Devin” Walker. The entire family will feel the beat at this highly interactive musical journey. With its mix of go-go rhythms and educational fun, this show is where Go-Go meets Schoolhouse Rock.

About Parks Playhouse Junior

Parks Playhouse Junior is a seasonal series from Montgomery Parks that brings high-quality children’s performances to local parks across the county. Featuring music, theater, and interactive storytelling, the series runs throughout the summer on select weekday and weekend mornings from 10 to 11 a.m. All performances are free to attend.
