WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks is gearing up for Memorial Day 2026, including holiday operating hours and extending its Open Parkways through Monday, May 25, for the holiday weekend.
Open Parkways schedule
The Open Parkways will be extended for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. During this time, parkways are open to pedestrians and bicyclists and closed to motor vehicles.
- Beach Drive between Knowles Avenue and Cedar Lane (2.2 miles) and
- Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road
- Saturday, May 23, 7 a.m. until Monday, May 25, at 6 p.m.
- Sligo Creek Parkway between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard West
- Friday, May 22, 9 a.m. until Monday, May 25, at 6 p.m.
*Please note: Gate closures are intended to be completed by the times listed above. The re-opening of the parkways begins at the times listed above. However, this process may take up to 30 minutes to complete.
Seasonal amenities opening Saturday, May 23
The South Germantown SplashPark & Mini-Golf and Lake Needwood and Black Hill Boats (Kayak, canoe, rowboats, and pedal boat rentals)
- Memorial Day weekend, May 23-25, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. (New boat rentals end at 4:30 p.m. and all boats must be returned by 6 p.m.)
The following is a sampling of facilities that are open during the holiday weekend.
Open Saturday, May 23 through Monday, May 25:
- Parks, trails, gardens, playgrounds, dog parks, skate parks, outdoor exercise stations, and outdoor tennis/pickleball and basketball courts* are open daily, sunrise to sunset. (*Select outdoor courts are available for rental.)
- Try out the new disc golf course at Northwest Branch Recreational Park (permit required for tournaments).
- The in-line hockey rink at Ridge Road Recreational Park and street hockey/futsal rink at Dewey Local Park may be permitted, or are available first-come, first-served if not reserved.
- Picnic shelters and campfire rings are available for rental at several locations.
- Little Bennett Campground
- Cabin John Miniature Train and Wheaton Miniature Train and Carousel, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
- South Germantown Driving Range, Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m.-8 p.m.; Memorial Day, May 25, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. (*Last bucket sold one hour before closing time.)
- Brookside Gardens grounds open daily sunrise-sunset, Visitor Center open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Conservatory open daily 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The Butterfly Experience, 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. (Timed tickets required.)
Open Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24:
- Nature centers (check website for specific hours)
- Pauline Betz Addie Tennis Center, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
- Josiah Henson Museum and Park, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sunday, 12 – 4 p.m. (Park grounds open sunrise to sunset)
- Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park Museum and Visitor Center: Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday, 12-4 p.m.; Manor House guided tours: Saturday, 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.; Sunday, 1 p.m. (Park grounds and trails open sunrise to sunset)
The following facilities will be closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026:
- Montgomery Parks Headquarters and Permits Offices
- Montgomery Parks Customer Service Office
- Pauline Betz Addie and Wheaton Indoor Tennis Centers (Wheaton is also closed Saturday and Sunday, May 23-24)
- Cabin John Ice Rink and Wheaton Ice Arena (Also closed Saturday and Sunday, May 23-24)
- Indoor nature facilities – Trails and outdoor nature play areas remain open sunrise to sunset.
