WHEATON, Md.— Montgomery Parks announces the opening of its newest skate park at Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park in Clarksburg. The 12,000-square-foot facility, designed by Spohn Ranch Skateparks, features a mellow peanut shaped bowl and a flowy street section with rails, ledges, quarter pipes, and more. It was built for skateboarders, in-line skaters, scooters, and bikers of all ages and abilities.

“Parks staff met with hundreds of skateboarders and skateboard enthusiasts as we developed this new skate park to ensure that it has everything a skateboarder could dream of and more,” said Miti Figueredo, director of Montgomery Parks. “Now that it’s open, we are so excited to see how skateboarders put it to good use.”

The new skate park is part of a larger renovation of Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park which will include a new playground, carousel, walking trails and more. The ribbon cutting for the full park renovation will take place in May.

Detailed features of the skate park include:

This is the department’s fourth skate park and first one located in the northern part of Montgomery County.

“The new skate park at Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park is going to be a great new recreational amenity in the upcounty,” said Maryland State Senator Craig Zucker. “As a former skateboarder, I know it’s a great sport and good recreation for our youth. I’m proud to have helped fund this park along with my colleagues in District 14. This funding helps support investments like this that expand and enhance the quality of life for residents across our region.”
