It’s June! Embrace the season with Montgomery Parks

WHEATON, Md.– As the spring waves goodbye and summer rolls in, now is the perfect time to explore Montgomery Parks and all the events we have to offer. Whether you’re testing your knowledge at Trivia in the Barn, splashing around at WaterFest, or enjoying a lovely night of Shakespeare in the Parks, there’s something for everyone. Check out these programs and more happenings this month!

Shakespeare in the Parks

Shakespeare in the Parks: As You Like It | June 20 | 6:30 p.m.– 8:30 p.m.
Meadowside Nature Center, 5100 Meadowside Lane, Rockville

Love, disguise, and redemption collide in Shakespeare’s “As You Like It.” Witty, romantic, and full of heart, “As You Like It,” celebrates love in all its unexpected forms. Bring a lawn chair, and a picnic, and enjoy the bard under the stars. Restrooms and water fountains will be available. Free admission.

Shakespeare In the Garden | June 30 | 7 p.m.– 8:45 p.m.
Brookside Gardens, 1800 Glenallen Avenue, Wheaton

Delight in the Gude Gardens’ transformation into an open-air theatre for an outdoor performance of “As You Like It.” Bring a picnic or enjoy the on-site food truck! Free admission.

Kayak on the Lake

WaterFest | June 6 | 11 a.m.– 2 p.m.
Maydale Nature Classroom, 1638 Maydale Drive, Colesville

Come make a splash while learning about your local watershed through crafts, games, exhibitors, and activities. Enjoy suncatchers, bubble fun, sprinklers, scavenger hunts and more! Learn about local watershed creatures including eels, frogs, water bugs, and beavers. No registration required. Free.

Dance Nights in the Barn | June 10 | 6 p.m.– 8 p.m.
Agricultural History Farm Park, 18400 Muncaster Road, Derwood

Kick up your boots and get ready to move with Dance Nights in the Barn! Join us for an upbeat, high-energy evening where dancers of all skill levels can learn classic and modern dances in a welcoming, rustic setting. Bring your friends, enjoy great music, and soak up the fun atmosphere as you dance the night away. No partner or experience needed – just comfortable shoes and a willingness to have a good time! $15.

Family Craft Night | June 18 | 5:30 p.m.– 6:30 p.m.
Maydale Nature Classroom, 1638 Maydale Drive, Colesville

Join us for an evening of family fun crafting using materials found in nature! Take a short walk to gain inspiration and work with a naturalist to create beautiful works of art. $7.

Soaring Solstice | June 21 | 4 p.m.– 5 p.m.
Meadowside Nature Center, 5100 Meadowside Lane, Rockville

Come celebrate the longest day of the year with our birds of prey! We will learn about raptors’ amazing adaptations that help them hunt in a variety of environments and lighting conditions. You will also learn how to help protect our raptor neighbors! $7.

Trivia Night in the Barn | June 23 | 6 p.m.– 8 p.m.
Agricultural History Farm Park, 18400 Muncaster Road, Derwood

Put your knowledge to the test with Trivia Night in the Barn! Gather your friends, bring your thinking caps, and enjoy an evening of friendly competition in our rustic setting. Questions will span a variety of fun categories, so there’s something for trivia buffs of all skill levels. Enjoy a selection of adult beverages from our on-site vendor, plus each registration includes one free drink voucher to kick off your night! Prizes await the top contestants, so sharpen those skills and get ready to play! $25.

Kayaking for Beginners | June 24 | 6:30–8:30 p.m.
Black Hill Discovery Center, 20926 Lake Ridge Drive, Boyds

Kayaking is even more fun than it looks! Learn how to paddle on flat water in recreational solo kayaks on the calm waters of Little Seneca Lake. Learn basic strokes, entries, and exits, boat control, and more, taught by certified American Canoe Association instructors. All necessary equipment is provided, but personal PFD (Type III or V) allowed. Participants must be able to swim. $60.
