Weed Warrior Workday at Elmhirst Parkway Neighborhood Conservation Area

Volunteer uses a weed wrench

Save the trees and protect the Rock Creek Stream Valley ecosystem

Join Barbara, Weed Warrior Supervisor, for a non-native, invasive plant removal workday at Elmhirst Parkway Neighborhood Conservation Area in Bethesda, MD.

The exact meeting location will be emailed to all pre-registrants.

We will focus on non-native, invasive vines and shrubs including porcelainberry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata), English ivy (Hedera helix), bush honeysuckle (Lonicera maackii), and wineberry (Rubus phoenicolasius). Native Virginia creeper and poison ivy are also present and beneficial, so we will avoid those.

Dress for the weather! Please wear long pants that cover your ankles, long sleeves, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Bring gloves, pruners, flathead screwdrivers, weed wrenches/uprooters, small folding hand saws, and/or loppers if you have them. Gloves and tools are available to borrow if you don’t have your own. No power tools or machetes allowed. Please bring water to drink. Please note: Court Ordered Volunteer Hours can’t be granted through this workday.

This event is capped at 10 people.

This workday is pre-approved for MCPS SSL hours. Volunteers under 16 are not permitted to use sharp tools (ie: pruners), so if you are under 16, you will help rip wineberry out of the ground using a mini-uprooter.

Volunteers 14 and under must be accompanied by a pre-registered, responsible adult.

All volunteers must register online: Click here to register for the event
