Weed Warrior Workday at Elmhirst Parkway Neighborhood Conservation Area- MLK Weekend

Save the trees, protect the Rock Creek Stream Valley ecosystem, and celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend of Service

Join Weed Warrior Supervisor Barbara for a non-native, invasive plant removal workday at Elmhirst Parkway Neighborhood Conservation Area in Bethesda, MD.

We will meet in the park, across from 9302 Elmhirst Drive.

We will focus on non-native, invasive vines including porcelainberry. If the ground isn’t frozen, we will use uprooter tools on wineberry and bush honeysuckle too! Native Virginia creeper and poison ivy are also present and beneficial, so we will avoid those.

Dress for the weather. Please wear long pants that cover your ankles, long socks, long sleeves, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Bring warm gloves, pruners, flathead screwdrivers, weed wrenches/uprooters, small folding hand saws, and/or loppers if you have them. Gardening-type gloves and tools are available to borrow if you don’t have your own. No power tools or machetes allowed. Please bring water to drink. Please note: Court Ordered Volunteer Hours can’t be granted through this workday.

This event is capped at 10 people.

This workday is pre-approved for MCPS SSL hours. Volunteers must be 16 years or older to join this event.
