History comes alive Friday, May 2, 10am – 2pm at Kingsley Schoolhouse through living history programs designed especially for homeschool students, grades 2 – 8!
Journey with us to the past and enjoy hands-on activities and crafts. This spring we will celebrate the art of poetry with author and poet, Regie Cabico during his poetry workshop: “I Laugh, Eat Well, And Grow Strong.” We will recite the poems of Langston Hughes to find our own stories using concrete nouns of smell, taste, touch sound, and color. We will pair words together to make 2-word poems and channel our powerful selves. We will use our bodies to create shapes, work with partners, mirror our movements, and make friends. We will write and share our poems in a fun space and answer the question: Who are you? This workshop will culminate in an open mic so clap and snap your fingers and bring all your feelings into the spoken word!
Regie Cabico is the first Asian American poet to win the Nuyorican Poet Cafe’s Grand Slam and is the author of A Rabbit In Search of a Rolex, His poetry has been featured on HBO, NPR’s Snap Judgement and 2 episodes of the television documentary “The Poet Speaks.”
