New to the area or just want to get out for a hike? Explore different parks in Montgomery County with an experienced naturalist. Length of hike and trail difficulty varies from site to site.
Today we’ll explore Blockhouse Point Conservation Park. This park is one of Montgomery Parks’ Best Natural Areas, including mature upland forest, floodplain forest, palustrine wetlands, streams, river-rock outcrops, at least nine species of threatened, endangered, or watchlist plants, a diversity of wildlife and grand views of the Potomac River and C&O Canal. There are numerous trails that were once used as a wartime transportation system for supplies in the Civil War and remnants of the blockhouses from that era. Meet at 14750 River Road, Darnestown, MD 20854.
