Discover what’s new in March: Montgomery Parks’ lineup of events

WHEATON, Md.–The days are getting longer and there’s no better use of the extra daylight than to spend them at Montgomery Parks. Learn about green careers, enjoy family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, Women’s History Month events, and more all month.

March events include (registration required for all programs unless indicated):

Green Careers Panel Discussion | March 4 | 6–7 p.m.
Brookside Gardens Virtual

Join us for a virtual panel discussion with passionate green professionals and hear about their career journeys and explore potential career fields that support sustainability, climate solutions, environmental science, conservation, and more. Prizes will be raffled off at the end of the panel presentation. This virtual program is most applicable to high school and middle school students, but it will be engaging and useful for all! Advance registration required. Free.

Rockwood Manor Open House | March 8 |11 a.m.–2 p.m.
Rockwood Manor Retreat and Events, Potomac

Situated on a 30-acre wooded estate, Rockwood Manor is the ideal venue for hosting weddings, business retreats, and other parties. Stop by our Open House to tour the Manor, meet with our staff and professional area vendors, including caterers, event planners, entertainment, and more! Free.

In Search of the Gold: St. Patrick’s Day Scavenger Hunt | March 13 |11 a.m.–12 p.m.
Meadowside Nature Center, Rockville

Follow the rainbow down the nature center’s trails and find the pot of gold during this self-guided hike. $7.

Tea at Woodlawn Manor: Women’s History Month | March 14 | 2–4 p.m.
Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park, Sandy Spring

Enjoy a traditional afternoon tea in the parlor of Woodlawn Manor with a Clarksville Caterers-crafted menu featuring English Tea sandwiches, assorted pastries, and fresh fruit. As you sip on a special Woodlawn Blend of tea, learn about the female figures of Woodlawn and the Underground Railroad through a lecture by Education Program Manager, Christian Murgia. $55.\

St. Patrick’s Day Leprechaun Hunt | March 17 | 10:30–11:30 a.m.
Maydale Nature Center, Colesville

A leprechaun is on the loose at Maydale! Come with us as we follow his trail and perhaps find some of the “gold” he’s left behind along the way. $7.

Wood and Wine at Oakley Cabin | March 21 | 4- 7 p.m.
Oakley Cabin African American Museum and Park

Craft, sip, and savor by the fire. Celebrated local artist AnnA Fogg will guide you through creating a stunning, one-of-a-kind wooden wreath while you enjoy a glass of craft cider or beer and a rustic spread of smoked meats, cheeses, roasted vegetables, and bread around the hearth. Includes an exclusive, handmade artisan mug. $50. (21+)

History Hour: Josiah Henson at Newport Mills | March 26 | 6 – 7 p.m.
Josiah Henson Museum and Park, North Bethesda (Parking is only available at Wall Local Park, 5900 Executive Blvd. North Bethesda, MD 20852. Limited accessible parking onsite.)

Local history writer Robert Engelman will share the story of slavery – with names and stories of some of those enslaved – in the place of his childhood and adolescence. His research area stretches from KenGar-Palisades Park near Kensington to Wheaton Triangle in southern Montgomery County. It includes the historic Newport Mills, where Rev. Josiah Henson experienced conversion to Christianity at age 18, a touchstone of the stories Engelman will relate. The area also played a role in indigenous, early colonial, and Civil War history. $5 (fee includes light refreshments)

Women of Woodlawn Walking Tour | March 28 | 1–1:45 p.m. and 3-3:45 p.m.
Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park, Sandy Spring

In celebration of Women’s History Month, this special “Women of Woodlawn” tour will explore societal norms of women from the early 1800s to the 1970s and provide a rare glimpse of original 19th-century documents not normally on display. The guided tour includes interior and exterior spaces, including optional spaces that are not ADA accessible. $5.

Star Party | March 28 | 7:30–9 p.m.
Meadowside Nature Center, Rockville

Join the National Capital Astronomers and Meadowside Nature Center to gaze upon the stars at this nighttime watch party. Viewing scopes and binoculars will be provided for guests to observe planets, the moon, stars, and more. Free.

Veterans Gardening Club | Alternate Mondays, March 30-May 11 | 4–5:30 p.m.
Maydale Nature Center, Colesville

The Veterans Gardening Club offers a welcoming space for veterans to build basic gardening skills while connecting with peers through shared experiences. Participants will work with herbs and small produce using hands-on, beginner-friendly activities that encourage learning, conversation, and teamwork. The program focuses on skill-building, social connection, and well-being in a relaxed, supportive environment. Free.
