Community mural project to bring neighbors together at Agricultural History Farm Park

WHEATON, Md. –  Story Tapestries, in partnership with Montgomery Parks will launch the Community Roots: History and Belonging Mural Project on September 20, 2025. This creative initiative invites community members to come together via a series of community meetings to explore their heritage and help co-create a vibrant mural that celebrates the evolving legacy of Agricultural History Farm Park. The mural will be created by local artist Luis Del Valle.

“The Agricultural History Farm Park is a living reminder of our county’s past and present,” said Shirl Spicer, Montgomery Parks’ Cultural Resources Museums manager. “This project allows us to celebrate the diversity of our community while making the park an even more welcoming and inspiring place.”

The project will unfold through a series of in-person collaborative workshops and events at the Agricultural History Farm Park, providing multiple ways for community members to share memories, reflect on the land’s history, and engage in collective artistic expression.

Workshop schedule:

All events are free and open to participants of all ages. The schedule is designed to offer flexible opportunities for residents to contribute to the project—whether they wish to attend just one session or participate throughout the process.

“Community engagement is at the heart of what we do,” said Arianna Ross, CEO and founder of Story Tapestries. “By inviting residents to share their stories, we are ensuring that this mural truly reflects the voices and experiences of those who call Montgomery County home.”
