Weather Cancellation Procedures for Lottery-based Firearms Managed Deer Hunting Program

In the event that the National Weather Service issues a high wind advisory, high wind warning, tornado warning, severe thunderstorm warning, flood warning, or winter storm
warning for the surrounding area during the hours scheduled for hunting to occur, hunting operations will be cancelled for that day. Other weather events that may result in
cancellation include: tornado watch, severe thunderstorm watch, flood watch and winter weather advisory or watch (especially with regard to freezing rain and ice accumulation). Other conditions will be evaluated on a case by case basis, but in every case, we strive for
safety first.

If you do not feel safe driving to your hunt location, DO NOT. Simply contact Parks’ Staff to inform them of your decision. Under most rain and light/moderate snow conditions hunting operations will proceed as planned.

If you have any question as to whether a hunt will proceed as planned, please call the Deer Management Hotline, 301-495-3585 on the morning of your hunt. Make the menu
selection for Managed Hunt Cancellation Information. The hotline will be updated with the latest information as it becomes available. If you are unable to get through, please be
patient and continue to check back. When possible, cancellation decisions will be recorded by 4:00AM. However, unpredictable changes in weather conditions or forecasts may require an onsite decision to be rendered.
