Jazz at Josiah Henson

Join us for Jazz at Josiah Henson on Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm! The event features live jazz music by Eric Byrd Trio, local food and drinks on the grounds of Josiah Henson Museum & Park. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket of chairs for the performance, explore the grounds, and enjoy a museum tour during their visit.

About the Event

The Band

The Eric Byrd Trio are internationally acclaimed jazz ambassadors whose sound blends swing, bepop, gospel, and blues with energy and soul. For more than 25 years, the Maryland-based trio has performed worldwide, earning a Maryland State Arts Council Independent Artist Award and a Governor’s Citation for over two decades of global touring. Their recording Twenty won the 2022 Washington Area Music Award for Jazz Recording of the Year, and their latest release, Echoes of Arrival (2025) marks a bold new chapter. Former Kennedy Center/U.S. State Department Jazz Ambassadors, EBT continues to honor the tradition while pushing jazz forward.

There are restrooms located in the Josiah Henson Museum.

Cost:

This event is free to attend and registration is not required. Food and drink are available for purchase.

Alcohol Policy:

Alcohol will be available to purchase for those 21+ with a valid ID. Alcohol consumption must stay within designated event area.

Accessibility:

The park grounds and museum interiors are fully accessible, however, several historic elements may not be physically accessible.

Seating:

There may be limited seating provided. Guests are encouraged to bring their own blankets and lawn chairs.

Pets:

Pets are allowed at the event but must be kept on a leash while on park property. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets and disposing of waste in the proper receptacles. Pets are not permitted inside the museum.

Weather:

If this event is cancelled due to inclement weather, there will not be a rain date.

Public Transportation :

The Red Line Metro stop at North Bethesda is 0.6 miles away. Bus Route 26 is accessible from the Visitor Center.

Parking:

Limited parking is available at the lot across the street at Shriver Aquatic Center & Wall Local Park – 5800 Executive Boulevard, North Bethesda. Please follow the accessible pathway from the parking lot to Nicholson Lane. At Nicholson Lane, turn right and cross over Old Georgetown Road. Continue walking south for about one block and you will arrive to the Museum.
