Field Trip with a Naturalist: Mt. Cuba Botanical Garden Spring Ephemerals Trip

Join us for a van trip to natural sites in the regional area.

Join us for a special spring excursion to Mt. Cuba Center—a must-see destination for every native-plant enthusiast and anyone who’s even a little native-plant curious. We’ve chosen this date to catch the spectacular peak of their spring ephemeral wildflowers, one of the most magical times of year in their renowned woodland gardens.

Our trip begins with bus transportation from Locust Grove Nature Center, departing at 9:00am. After a two-hour drive, we’ll arrive in Hockessin, Delaware for a private group tour of Mt. Cuba’s native plant collections and their research-focused study garden. Following the tour, we’ll enjoy a group picnic on the lawn—please bring a bagged lunch—and then you’ll have a couple of hours to explore the gardens on your own or with a small group. We’ll depart Mt. Cuba at 3:00pm and return to Locust Grove by 5:00pm.

Expect to spend most of the day outdoors, walking on mulched or natural-surface trails, some of which include gentle hills. Bring weather-appropriate layers (including a waterproof shell), comfortable outdoor walking shoes, a hiking pole if you prefer, a packed lunch, and a reusable water bottle. We’ll provide snacks for the road.

Come experience the best of spring in one of the region’s finest native plant gardens!
