
WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks invites people of all ages to join the celebration of Juneteenth on Thursday, July 19, 2025. Interactive museum exhibits and activities for all ages will bring the rich history and cultural heritage of Montgomery County to life.
Juneteenth at Josiah Henson Museum and Park

Parking is available at Wall Local Park, 5900 Executive Blvd. Follow signs from the parking lot to the playground to find the walking path to the museum.
Celebrate Juneteenth by visiting the museum dedicated to Reverend Josiah Henson. Henson was born into slavery in Maryland but escaped to freedom in Canada and then helped more than 100 others to freedom as a conductor on the Underground Railroad. Henson’s life story in his own words is featured in the museum which is located at the site of the plantation where he was once enslaved. Self-guided tours and special hands-on activities will be available. Regular admission: $5. Seniors (55+) and Children (ages 6-17): $4. Tickets are available at the museum.
Juneteenth at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park

Visit the Woodlawn Museum to learn about Montgomery County’s agricultural history, enslaved and free Black communities, and the Quaker experience. The museum, located in a historic stone barn, features three floors of exhibits.
Adult admission: Regular admission: $5, Seniors (55+) and children (6-17): $4. Tickets are available at the museum.
Woodlawn Manor House will be closed
Underground Railroad Experience Trail at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park is open sunrise to sunset for self-guided exploration.

Cabin John Regional Park comes alive at the Annual Scotland Juneteenth Heritage Festival with a day packed with high energy performances, a parade, games, petting zoo and food from the area’s best food trucks. Open Parkways schedule:
The Open Parkways will be extended for the Juneteenth holiday. During this time, parkways are open to pedestrians and bicyclists and closed to motor vehicles.
- Beach Drive between Knowles Avenue and Cedar Lane (2.2 miles) and Sligo Creek Parkway between Forest Glen Road and University Boulevard West : Thursday, June 19, 9 a.m. until Sunday, June 22, at 6 p.m.
- Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road : Saturday, June 21, at 7 a.m. until Sunday, June 22, at 6 p.m.
- Sligo Creek Parkway between Old Carroll Avenue and Piney Branch Road will be on an amended schedule due to Purple Line construction. Click here to learn more about this change.
- *Please note: Gate closures are intended to be completed by the times listed above. The re-opening of the parkways begins at the times listed above. However, this process may take up to 30 minutes to complete.
