Wellness and education programs in parks for all ages start in September

WHEATON, Md. – Fall is the perfect time to try something new, get moving, and reconnect with the outdoors through Montgomery Parks’ Park Academy Series. This season’s lineup offers a wide range of classes and experiences, from Pilates and yoga to tree climbing for adults 55+ and tips for organizing and improving your iPhone photography collection. The fall session begins September 10, and registration opens August 10.
The Park Academy Series takes place in neighborhood parks to bring fitness, wellness, and learning close to home for participants. Programs are offered for all age groups and are held outdoors in local parks or in park activity buildings.
Park Academy Series Fall Highlights:
Yoga combines fun with flexibility:
Yoga classes are offered for all ages and at various times during the day, focusing on movement, breathwork, balance, flexibility, and mindfulness. Start early with Rise and Shine Flow Yoga, take a midday break with Midday Reset Yoga. There are also classes for toddlers and caregivers and older adults (55+)
Dance, Pound and Strengthen your Core:
Dance Fitness alternates between high- and low-intensity cardio dance moves designed to maximize your calorie-burning potential, release joy, tone muscle, improve heart health, and overall mood.
POUND Fitness uses lightly weighted Ripstix to combine music, movement, and stress relief, and incorporates Pilates and strength training.
Pilates Mat is a Level 1 class that blends traditional techniques for strengthening and toning with a modern twist.
Maximize your iPhone:
Do you love your iPhone but are still unsure about all its functionality? Then this series of classes is for you. Three separate classes will guide participants on how to protect their privacy and personal information, navigate the photo library, and declutter digital photos.
Climb to New Heights:
For the 55+ set, there is a Canopy Connection class where participants learn to climb a tree with professionals as a form of exercise. The hands-on course offers a unique opportunity to learn the basics of ropes, how to tie basic knots, proper techniques to ascend ropes, and safety equipment used for tree climbing.
