According to the “Birding America” website, the Pennyfield Lock Neighborhood Conservation Area “is one of the locations along the C&O Canal that is famous in birding circles. It’s a beautiful place to bird — a walk (the old towpath) between canal and river, with trees and birds along a continuous edge over water. It can be terrific in spring migration, and a pleasure any time you’re looking for a walk-i nature.”

M-NCPPC acquired this 1.9-acre park, which also features a boat ramp, in 1971.  This park is maintained without the use of pesticides.
