WHEATON, Md. – Woodworkers, furniture makers, artists, and do-it-yourselfers can shop a unique selection of locally sourced lumber at Montgomery Parks annual Urban Wood Sale on Saturday, November 14, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (while supplies last). The sale, located at Montgomery Parks Green Farm Facility, 8301 Turkey Thicket Drive in Gaithersburg, gives a new use to material that might otherwise go to waste.
Shoppers can choose from slabs of cedar, pine, poplar, oak, ash, and other species in a variety of sizes. Boards are available kiln-dried, planed or air-dried, with prices ranging from $5 to $400, depending on board size and wood species. The sale is first come, first served, so shoppers are encouraged to arrive early for the best selection. Payment is by credit card only, and no advance sales are available.
Proceeds from the sale support Montgomery Parks’ Urban Wood Waste Recycling Program and Green Waste Recycling Program, which turn organic waste from parkland into products such as compost, mulch, woodchips, and milled wood for use in projects.
