Proposed policy provides avenue for donations to improve athletic fields
Wheaton, Md. – Montgomery Parks is seeking review and input for a new Athletic Field Amenity Donation Draft Policy that provides an avenue for individuals and groups to donate funds to improve Montgomery Parks’ athletic fields. The public may provide feedback on the proposed policy by taking a short survey from September 9 – October 9, 2026. Survey responses will be considered when updating the policy before the Montgomery County Planning Board approves it.
“Montgomery Parks is committed to providing high-quality athletic fields throughout the county, even as budget constraints make it challenging to meet growing community demand,” said Miti Figueredo, director of Montgomery Parks. “By creating a clear path for private donations, this policy can help offset funding pressures and advance improvements that expand field capacity without relying solely on public resources.”
The Athletic Field Amenity Donation Policy will provide structured opportunities for donors to contribute dedicated funding or convey new parkland intended to help achieve these goals. Montgomery Parks’ long-term goal is to increase athletic field capacity through amenities such as field lighting, batting cages, practice walls, dugouts, and year-round turf fields. This policy is intended to help fulfill this mission by leveraging private investment. Donations secured through this policy will allow donors to play an active role in shaping the future of athletic field amenities in Montgomery County.
