Montgomery Parks Makes Birding More Accessible During Birdability Week 2026

Wheaton, Md. – Montgomery Parks will mark Birdability Week, October 19-25, 2026, with guided outings and other activities that help remove barriers to birding. Birdability Week is a national event that promotes accessible, inclusive birding for people with disabilities and other health concerns.

Throughout the week, participants can build bird identification skills through guided walks and crafts, explore adaptive birding resources and learn how Montgomery Parks is connecting more people with nature. Programs reflect the theme by welcoming birders in parks and other accessible spaces.

“This year’s theme, ‘Bird Where You Are,’ is a reminder that people can experience birding anywhere and in all sorts of creative ways,” said Ashlyn Thompson, Montgomery Parks inclusion and outreach specialist. “Montgomery Parks has created 13 new and unique inclusive programs that celebrate the joy of birding.”

Montgomery Parks’ Birdability Week programs welcome seasoned birders and newcomers. Accessibility features include American Sign Language interpretation, an accessible pontoon boat and dock, EnChroma color blind vision sunglasses, an accessible pond boardwalk, and a flat, frustration-free birding trail.
