Wheaton, Md. — Montgomery Parks is closing select outdoor facilities today because of Code Purple air quality conditions affecting the region. Closed facilities include:
- Black Hill Boats
- The Butterfly Experience at Brookside Gardens will be closed Friday and all day Saturday. The North Conservatory facility will also be closed both days.
- SplashPark and Miniature Golf at South Germantown Recreational Park
- Miniature trains at Wheaton and Cabin John Regional Parks
- Carousel at Wheaton Regional Park
- Grownup Outdoor Movie Night at Flower Avenue Urban Park
The closures are being made out of an abundance of caution to protect visitors and staff during periods of very unhealthy air quality caused by smoke from wildfires in Canada. Montgomery Parks staff also will restrict outdoor activities during Code Purple conditions, which indicate air pollution levels are very unhealthy. Health officials advise people to limit time outdoors and avoid strenuous outdoor activity until conditions improve.
Montgomery Parks staff will continue to monitor air quality conditions and reopen facilities when it is safe to do so. Visitors should check the Montgomery Parks weather alerts webpage for the latest information before visiting parks, trails, programs, or facilities.
