Home / Montgomery Parks begins trail upgrades in Wheaton Regional Park as part of master plan implementation

WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is renovating and developing trails at Wheaton Regional Park as part of the implementation of the department’s recently approved update to the park’s master plan.

Staff will be renovating the entire natural surface trail system in the park, which includes adding 1.75 miles of new natural surface trails to the existing 4.75 miles of natural surface trails.  Trail renovations will include tread and drainage construction, bridge replacement and improved wayfinding. In addition, some of the trails will be designated as full multi-use trails to accommodate hiking, mountain biking and equestrian use.  More details about the trail construction and renovation are available on the project map.

All trails in the park will remain open (unless otherwise posted) during work periods which are expected to take place over the course of a year. Trail users are urged to use caution around construction areas.

All construction and renovation will happen between 7:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on weekdays, as well as on occasional weekends.

Please visit the webpage for the Wheaton Regional Park Natural Surface Trails Construction and Renovation for more information.
