WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks announces a new, permanent art installation, Synesthesia, located in downtown Silver Spring at Gene Lynch Urban Park. Synesthesia, by Baltimore-based artist Becky Borlan, is a sculpture featuring a series of stainless-steel framed, glass panels that include a graphic film creating a kaleidoscopic colored effect. The panels project from the park’s central pergola structure and feature LED lighting to create a captivating night presence.

“Public art is important for so many reasons – it engages and inspires, creates a sense of place and identity, and supports local artists. We are thrilled with the new installation and hope it will catch the attention of passers-by to stop and enjoy the park,” said Miti Figueredo, director of Montgomery Parks.
Synesthesia was selected as the winning entry for the park’s art installation among more than 100 submissions. An artist selection panel narrowed the submissions down to four finalists. The winner was selected through a public voting process.
Gene Lynch Urban Park is a 0.25-acre triangular park located in downtown Silver Spring, across from the Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center and Silver Spring Metro Station. The park opened in June 2023 and is dedicated to late Planning Board Commissioner, civic leader, and political activist Gene Lynch.
