Jump into summer with Montgomery Parks’ Park Academy Series

WHEATON, Md. – Things are heating up at Montgomery Parks and the Park Academy Series is offering invigorating yoga, Pilates, and fitness classes, as well as an indigo tie-dye class to exercise creativity. The summer session begins on June 16 and registration is open.

The Park Academy Series takes place in neighborhood parks to bring fitness, wellness, and learning close to home for participants. Programs are offered for all age groups and are held outdoors in local parks or in park activity buildings.  

Wellness Highlights

Want to strengthen your core? Check out Pilates Mat at Argyle Local Park in Silver Spring on Thursdays with this Level 1 Pilates mat class that blends traditional techniques for strengthening and toning with a modern twist.

Families can share the mat with Toddler and You Yoga at Kensington Cabin and Tilden Woods local parks in on Thursdays and Saturdays, where stretching, singing, and creative play come together in a joyful introduction to movement and mindfulness.

Indigo in the Park is a hands-on outdoor workshop that brings creative energy to summer being offered three times at Sligo Avenue Neighborhood Park on Mondays in June, July, and August. Work with rich, natural indigo dye and learn how to create your own tie-dyed fabrics while experimenting with a variety of techniques. Beginners and experienced artists alike leave with blue-stained hands, newly dyed pieces, and a deeper appreciation for the magic of indigo.

Looking to turn up the energy? MitranDe Bhangra Dance brings rhythm, culture, and cardio together in one joyful experience. Held Tuesday evenings at Clarksburg Local Park, this high-energy class celebrates the vibrant Punjabi folk dance known for its powerful movements and infectious music. Equal parts workout and cultural celebration, Bhangra boosts coordination, elevates mood, and creates a welcoming, stress-free environment where dancers of all backgrounds can connect and have fun.

Unleash your inner rock star with POUND Fitness on Thursday evenings at Norbeck-Muncaster Mill Neighborhood Park. This drumming-inspired cardio workout uses lightly weighted Ripstix to combine music, movement, and stress relief into one unforgettable experience. With influences from Pilates, strength training, and plyometrics, POUND is the perfect way to de-stress.

Early risers can greet the day with Rise and Shine Flow Yoga on Wednesdays at Kensington Cabin Local Park. This invigorating class blends mindful breathwork and movement to set a positive tone for the day ahead.

Take a refreshing midday pause this summer with Summer Reset Yoga at Kensington Cabin Local Park on Wednesdays in July. Flow through gentle postures designed to release tension, build flexibility and strength and rejuvenate mind and body. Open to all levels, the class welcomes beginners and experienced practitioners alike who are seeking a calming, rejuvenating break in their day.

Yoga for Body Positivity is a gentle flow yoga class to help students feel more comfortable and confident in their bodies. Each Wednesday class at Kensington Cabin Local Park will include community, breathing exercises, and mediation on intention. Modification will be offered for all poses, because no two bodies are the same!

For older adults, Yoga for Strength and Vitality (Ages 55+) offers gentle yet active sessions at Kensington Cabin Local Park and Tilden Woods Local Park on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays this summer. These classes focus on flexibility, balance, and energy, with chair options available for modifications.
