Jazz at Josiah Henson brings music and history together in North Bethesda

WHEATON, Md. — Montgomery Parks will host Jazz at Josiah Henson, a free evening of live music, food, and museum tours, on Thursday, June 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Josiah Henson Museum and Park in North Bethesda.

Where:  Josiah Henson Museum and Park, 11410 Old Georgetown Road, North Bethesda 
Details:  Event is free and open to the public. Limited accessible parking is available at the museum. General parking is available at Shriver Aquatic Center and Wall Local Park, 5900 Executive Blvd., North Bethesda. 

Set on the grounds of the former plantation where the Rev. Josiah Henson was enslaved, the event offers the community a chance to gather while learning about a site that preserves an important chapter of American history. Guests are encouraged to explore the museum and park grounds and bring blankets or lawn chairs to use while enjoying the music. 

“Jazz at Josiah Henson brings people together through music and connects them to a powerful story of resilience, courage, and freedom,” said Miti Figueredo, director of Montgomery Parks. “We’re proud to create experiences like this that celebrate history and culture in our parks.”  

Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Palmetto Bay Food Truck and The Urban Winery. Alcohol will be available for purchase for guests 21 and older with valid identification and must remain within the designated event area.
